Nasyam, also known as Nasya, It is a form of nasal administration of medicinal substances, which involves the application of herbal oils, powders, or juices into the nostrils.

The term "Nasyam" is derived from the Sanskrit word "Nasa," meaning nose. It is based on the belief that the nasal passages are a direct pathway to the brain and have a strong influence on the head, neck, and sensory organs. Nasyam is used to treat various conditions and promote overall well-being.

During a Nasyam treatment, the patient is typically made to lie down with their head tilted back. The medicinal substance, usually in the form of drops or powders, is instilled into the nostrils using a dropper or by sniffing it in. The therapist may massage the area around the nose, forehead, and cheeks to help spread the medicine and facilitate its absorption.

Nasyam can be performed for different purposes, such as:

  • Sinus-related issues: Nasyam is often recommended for conditions like sinusitis, chronic rhinitis, allergies, and nasal congestion. The medicinal substances used in Nasyam help to clear the nasal passages, reduce inflammation, and alleviate congestion.
  • Headaches and migraines: This procedure can be beneficial for individuals experiencing headaches and migraines. Nasyam helps to balance the doshas (vital energies) in the head region, improve circulation, and relieve pain and discomfort.
  •  Neurological disorders: Nasyam is sometimes used as a supportive therapy for certain neurological conditions like facial paralysis, Bell's palsy, and trigeminal neuralgia. The application of specific herbal preparations through the nasal passage aims to stimulate nerve function and promote healing.
  •  Mental health and clarity: Nasyam is believed to have a positive effect on the mind and consciousness. It is sometimes used to enhance mental clarity, improve concentration, and promote a sense of calm and relaxation

It's important to note that Nasyam should be performed by a trained Ayurvedic practitioner or therapist who can assess your individual condition and recommend the appropriate substances and dosage. The specific type of Nasyam and the duration of treatment will depend on your unique needs and the guidance of the practitioner.

As with any therapeutic procedure, it is advisable to consult with a qualified Ayurvedic professional to determine if Nasyam is suitable for you and to ensure its safe and effective administration.
